Week 2 Reflection

This week, it was really fun to feel like we knew our way around the kitchen more. Because we felt this way, it was easier for us to go off on our own a little bit and do our own thing. We could get creative with what we wanted to make, rather than focusing on how to use the equipment and such. We started by planning out the dorms that we would be baking for and what each of them would get. We also saw how many people they had and decided how many baked goods we would need to make for each dorm to get enough. This week we made rice crispy treats, coffee cake, red velvet cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, and brownies. Each day, we came in and worked on our treat for the dorm. It usually doesn't take us very long, so each day we would usually bake something for the school as well. Either for breakfast or for desert. We would also sometimes do things like help bag cookies in two's, or help serve food at lunch. It has been fun to experience the hard work that goes into serving food

Senior Project Day 13 and 14

Today, Jaimes and I started out by coming in a little bit late to the kitchen because we had a senior seminar at 11:30. We came to the kitchen and decided for our last two days, we were going to make brownies to just hand out to people that we saw throughout the day. We started out by mixing our ingredients together to make a brownie batter. We then made a little bit of a mess trying to get the batter into the pans, but we did it. When the brownies were cooking, we had a snack and a drink. We then flipped them and took them out of the oven when they were fully ready. We then cut them and bagged them individually to hand out to people the next day.  Today, Jaimes and I handed out our brownies. We started by walking around and offering anyone we saw a brownie. We walked through the wise and got a lot of takers. Everyone was really happy to be offered a brownie in the middle of the day. We then went to our senior seminar at around 11 and handed more brownies out there. Everyone seemed to

Today, Jaimes and I made coffee cake with Barb for Sally B dorm. We got to the kitchen and got right to work with Barb. We started by making the streusel topping for the cake with cinnamon and oats and sugar.  The next thing we did was make the dough for the cake. When all of the parts were done, we layered the dough and the streusel on top of each other until it was a cake. After that we put it in the oven to bake. While that was baking, we helped serve lunch for the school. When we were done with lunch, we took our cake out of the oven and packaged it for Sally B. We then delivered it to Sally!

Today, Jaimes and I made a two small red velvet cakes, and one big one for desert that night. We started by mixing our ingredients for the cake.  We then put the batter into the pans. We had some trouble and made a mess with the red food dye. Then we put it into the oven.  When the cake was cooled, we frosted the cake and used a piping bag to make it look pretty.  When they were done, we went to the wise and helped Barb make cinnamon buns for the next morning. These turned out really good. After that, we delivered our cakes to Carr and Gannet!

Senior Project Day 10

Today, Jaimes and I didn't get into the kitchen until a little later because we had senior seminar at 11:00am. When we got into the kitchen, we switched up our plan due to our late arrival. Instead of cannolis, we decided to make M&M cookies instead. We started out by getting our ingredients and mixing them together in the mixing bowl. When they were done, we scooped them onto a few sheet pans and put them into the oven.  When the cookies were done, we made blueberry muffins for breakfast that morning. We mixed all of our ingredients and then scooped the batter into mini muffin tins. Then, we put them in the oven.  The last thing we did today was help Hannah put the desert for tonight onto plates so that they were ready to serve. We then delivered our cookies to Peabody and Summerfield dorms!

Today, Jaimes and I got to the kitchen and got right to work on our rice crispy treats, with the help of Hannah. We started by gathering our marshmallows, and Rice Crispy Treats, and melted the marshmallows with some butter. After those were melted, we mixed the Rice Crispy Treats in with the melted mixture and spread it across tins. After that, we helped out with serving lunch for everyone. When we were done serving and eating lunch, we made muffins for the next morning. We then packaged our rice crispy treats and gave them to Rulon and MLS dorms!

Project period day 7

Today, Jaimes and I made chocolate chip cookies for our senior seminar tonight. We started our day off by getting to the dining hall earlier than usual. 8:00am. And eat a nice breakfast after the kids were done eating. After eating, we got to work. The first thing that we did in the kitchen was help Hannah bag the cookies that would be for lunch desert. This took us some time, but we distracted ourselves by talking and laughing the whole time. When we finished bagging the cookies, we got to work on our own cookies. We decided to make them chocolate chip because everyone likes chocolate chip cookies. We made our batter and added our chips. We scooped the batter onto cookie sheets and put them in the oven. While those were baking, Jaimes and I helped out by helping serve lunch for the students. After eating our own lunch, we bagged our cookies and put them in a bowl for the seminar. Everyone loved them and we got lots of compliments.

Reflection of Week One

This week, it has been so much fun to work in the kitchen with Barb and all of the other kitchen staff. Already, I have learned new skills in the kitchen and have found my way around. This week we made baked goods for 10 different dorms and plan on making more goods for the rest of the dorms next week. It has been fun for Jaimes and I everyday to learn about the different things that you can make and how to make them properly. Baking is a life skill that I will always have because of this. It has also been nice being able to help out the dining hall. They do so much for us so it has been nice to give something back and help them out where we can. Some days, we helped serve the food during lunch time. I know that they appreciated that help. I have brought leftovers to my dorm most days and they have loved everything that we have made. Everything tastes so good and it is a really rewarding thing to eat something that you made yourself. It feels good to be making people happy with the th

Project Period Day 6

Today we made Oreo cookie truffles. Today was Saturday so we could only stay for a little bit this morning. We worked with Barbara again today. We started out by mixing up the Oreos in a blender. We then added cream cheese to those cookies and it made a really nice texture. We then scooped small balls of that batter onto a pan and put them in the freezer to freeze. When those were frozen, we melted white chocolate and milk chocolate in pots. When the chocolate was melted, we drizzled it onto the truffles and made then look really pretty. We then gave these to Ives and King dorms.

Senior Project Day 5

Today, Jaimes and I worked with Barbara in the wise to make cinnamon roles for West End and Fowler dorms. The first thing we did was meet Barb in the dining hall to gather ingredients and go over what we would be doing that day. After that we headed over to the wise. We started the cinnamon roles by mixing the dry and wet ingredients in a mixing bowl to make the dough. The next thing that we did did was make the cinnamon filling. We rolled out the dough in big squares and put lots of the filling in each square. After that, we rolled them so that it would create the swirl look. We then cut them up into slices and put them into trays.  We had so much fun cooking with Barb!  We then put the roles into the oven. While we were waiting, we made the icing for them. We mixed together lots of sugar and milk to make a really good icing. When the rolls were out of the oven, we put the icing on top. I gave the cinnamon roles to my dorm and they all loved them so much.  After making the roles, we

Today, Jaimes and I stated off by making chocolate chip banana bread. We started off by figuring out how much we would need and multiplying our recipe by 4.  After we had our recipe, we started mixing the ingredients together.  Here is Jaimes mashing bananas Our batter started to come together. When it was ready, we added chocolate chips to our batter and poured it evenly into bread pans. Then we put it in the oven. While that was baking, Jaimes and I helped serve the school during first lunch. When the banana bread was done, we cut it into slices and packaged and labeled it to later bring to the dorms.  The next thing we did, after having lunch, was make coffee cake. We started by making the batter and then laying it down in the pan. The coffee cake will be for breakfast tomorrow morning!

Senior Project Day 3

Today Jaimes and I made brownies! We started our morning with a the best crepe that Barb gave us with Nutella and bananas. After eating we started off our day by making the brownie batter.  We had to get our hands in the batter to mix it all together. After we made the batter, we scooped it into medium sized pans that we would later cut and deliver to the dorms. We decided to put all of our favorite snacks into our brownies such as pretzels, marshmallows, chex, and sprinkles. To add something fun. Then we put those into the oven! These are the finished product! After this we cut them into squares and packaged them for Burbank. Later Jaimes and I delivered them to the dorm and hope they enjoy!

Senior Project Day 2

For senior project today, Jaimes and I started out by eating the cinnamon roles that we made yesterday. They were so good and tasted better because we made them. After that, we started making the batter for our red velvet cupcakes that we will be giving to a few dorms tonight.  After making the batter, we scooped it into cupcake tins and put them in the oven.  While the cupcakes were cooking and cooling, Jaimes and I helped the dining hall staff with serving the food to the kids. We served the bread that we made yesterday. We took a break in between lunch to eat, and then helped with the second lunch.  When the Cupcakes were out of the oven and cool, we made the buttercream frosting, then put the frosting on. After the cupcakes were done, we packaged them up to bring to dorms.  When the cupcakes were done, we helped Hannah make the mini chocolate chip muffins for tomorrow's breakfast. We made the batter and then scooped it into the mini muffin tins. Then we headed out for the day!

Senior Project Day 1!

Today, Jaimes and I slept in until around 9:30 and then headed to the dining hall to meet Barb. The first thing that we did in the dining hall was go over with Barb what we would be doing for the week and for that day. She started us off making bread. First, we made the dough by looking at Hannah's recipe and mixing together the ingredients. We then added spices and rolled all of the dough into balls to make it into rolls. Then we let the bread bake. We tried it and it tasted so good. After that we wrote out a plan for what we would be doing for the rest of the week. We made a list of all of the dorms and decided what we would make each of them. Then we found the recipes for the treats and printed them out, so that we would be ready for the week. After our lunch break, we headed back into the kitchen and made the frosting for the cinnamon buns that will be for breakfast tomorrow. We then rolled the Cinnamon buns and put them in the pan.  It was so much fun finding our way around t
